history

Cumberland Environmental was incorporated in Tennessee in 1986.  At that time, the owner, Gary Lang, already had 20 years of experience with construction and construction management of commercial and industrial buildings.  Past projects included power plants, hospitals, and office buildings.

In those early days, Cumberland’s employees applied fireproof and acoustical coatings to structural building components.  However, as the asbestos, lead paint and mold remediation industry grew, Cumberland began providing certified abatement crews to a other contractors on a project basis.  (While asbestos is no longer the widespread problem it was in the 80's and 90's, the issue still surfaces on remodeling projects in older facilities.)  Eventually, Cumberland dropped all its other interests to focus its' efforts and licensing exclusively on providing specially trained and licensed crews for construction, environmental, and disaster response projects.

One of Cumberland’s first customers was Lang Environmental Services, a sister company owned and operated by Gary Lang.  Founded in 1981, Lang provided design/build construction, demolition, and environmental remediation services.  Cumberland team members gained valuable hands-on experience working with Lang and many other contractors.  Cumberland provided the project teams, including supervisors and foremen, and small tools and PPE.  When Lang Environmental sold its contracting business in 1998 to focus exclusively on training and material sales, Cumberland’s management team continued supplying such resources to several other General Contracting firms, which it continues to do to this day on a project by project basis. Cumberland's earlier history in general contracting and specialty contracting provides the overall knowledge and sensitivity to contracting needed in satisfying its general contracting clients.....from disaster response projects to post construction cleanup projects.
