Cumberland Environmental was incorporated in Tennessee in 1986. At that time, the owner, Gary Lang, already had 20 years of experience with construction and construction management of commercial and industrial buildings. Past projects included power plants, hospitals, and office buildings.
In those early days, Cumberland’s employees applied fireproof and acoustical coatings to structural building components. However, as the asbestos, lead paint and mold remediation industry grew, Cumberland began providing certified abatement workers to a wide variety of contractors on a temporary and permanent basis. Eventually, Cumberland dropped all its other interests to focus exclusively on the labor force business.
One of Cumberland’s first customers was Lang Environmental Services, a sister company owned and operated by Gary Lang. Founded in 1981, Lang provided construction, demolition, and environmental remediation services. Cumberland team members gained valuable hands-on experience working with Lang and many other contractors. In fact, by the time Lang Environmental sold its contracting business in 1998 to focus exclusively on training and material sales, Cumberland’s management team had accumulated a wealth of hands-on industry knowledge.
Today, this hands-on knowledge continues to help Cumberland’s management team understand and serve customers who work in the environmental remediation industry.
